Iranian crane departs Iran with Belgian partner

After 15 years of migration on its own, an Iranian crane migrates to Siberia with his Belgian partner.

Ataollah Kavian, director of the Environmental Protection Department in Mazandaran province, said in an interview with the media that the cranes' migration path would be monitored and observed throughout their journey.

Azerbaijan Republic, Kazakhstan, and Russia were also informed of their migration to ensure their safe passage, he added.

As the cranes fly over Gilan and Ardabil provinces, to further ensure their safety, authorities in the provinces were notified two weeks prior to their departure to monitor the cranes' movement in Iran.

After losing its mate 15 years ago, the Iranian crane had been migrating alone every year since. However, the recent departure of this crane and its new Belgian mate, who had been arranged to be transferred to Iran, is a heartwarming moment for many nature lovers in Iran.

The sight of these two cranes flying together toward Siberia is truly stunning and gives hope that love and companionship can be found even after years of solitude

With these precautions in place, the Iranian crane and his Belgian mate can make their journey with peace of mind, as they continue their migration to their destination.

The Iranian crane named Omid (hope) and his mate 'Roya' (dream) symbolize blessings and aspirations with people and authorities making every effort to save this endangered species in the county.
